Casa Seminario es la casa familiar más antigua de la Ciudad de México que sigue siendo habitada por la misma familia. Data de 1640 y se encuentra en el corazón del Centro Histórico, construida sobre los cimientos de la ciudad antigua. Pertenece a la familia de la restauradora que la salvó, y cada evento que aquí se celebra sostiene directamente su conservación.
En 1988, la restauradora Mónica Baptista López Negrete adquirió la casa y decidió salvarla. Había intervenido lienzos de los artistas más prominentes de México y restaurado obras monumentales en la Catedral Metropolitana. Por sus manos pasaron miles de obras ajenas. Casa Seminario fue la que eligió como propia.
Casa Seminario is the oldest family home in Mexico City still lived in by the same family. It dates from 1640 and stands in the heart of the Centro Histórico, built on the foundations of the ancient city. It belongs to the family of the restorer who saved it, and every event held here directly sustains its preservation.
In 1988, the restorer Mónica Baptista López Negrete bought the house and decided to save it. She had restored canvases by Mexico’s most prominent artists, and conserved monumental works in the Metropolitan Cathedral. Thousands of other people's masterpieces passed through her hands. Casa Seminario was the one she chose as her own.

¿Por qué se llama Seminario?
The street takes its name from the Seminario Conciliar, which stood beside the Cathedral. In the eighteenth century the house itself became part of it: for more than twenty years it housed the Seminary's Colegio Chico de Santo Tomás.
How much of the original building still stands?
Almost all of it. When the restoration began in 1988, the seventeenth-century layout and building systems were still intact beneath later alterations. Those additions were removed without touching the original structure.
